How Do I Know If I Have a Salmonella Infection from this Honey Smacks Outbreak?

Only a doctor can make a diagnosis of Salmonella infection. If you have eaten Honey Smacks and have become sick, urgent medical attention is highly recommended. Also, early medical treatment can greatly reduce the risk for long-term complications.

It is best not to panic, but it is a good idea to monitor your health and symptoms in the days after eating the product.

The Recall

The Kellogg Company initiated a recall on June 14, 2018 for the Honey Smacks cereal distributed across the United States and internationally. The recalled products bear the UPC Code 3800014810 and “Best Buy” dates of June 14, 2018 through June 14, 2019.

The CDC recommends not to eat recalled Kellogg’s Honey Smacks cereal. Even if you have already opened a box of it, eaten some, and not gotten sick — throw it away, or return it to the place of purchase for a refund. If you are someone who stores cereal in containers instead of boxes and are unsure of what type of cereal you bought, throw the cereal away.

It is a good idea though to hang onto your receipt and take pictures of the box, just in case.

The Outbreak

According to a notice from the CDC, Kellogg’s Honey Smacks Cereal has been linked to 73 Salmonella Mbandaka illnesses in 32 states. Of those with confirmed illnesses, 24 have been hospitalized.

At this time, the reported and confirmed illnesses began between March 3, 2018 and May 28, 2018.

The outbreak is expected to rise as illnesses reported after May 22, 2018 may not yet be linked to the outbreak.

"Candess & Jory were extremely valuable resources for me when I contracted food poisoning. They guided me through every step of the legal process from start to finish, always willing to answer questions and be fully transparent. They were able to secure a settlement for me, but what I valued more was how truly concerned they were about my health and well-being beyond my case. I would gladly recommend Candess & Jory to anyone looking for attorneys who will fight on their behalf and really care about their clients."

"I cannot recommend Jory Lange highly enough. When my father died, Jory was there and got an unbelievably great settlement (one of the highest settlements in America for for this type of case). I say this not only as a grateful client, but as a trial lawyer myself concentrating in personal injury with over 25 years experience. Jory has the knowledge, the skills, and the ability to handle big personal injury cases and my family and I are exceedingly pleased with the results and the justice that he obtained through very hard work for us.
